In Greek mythology, the Rod of Asclepius (⚕), also known as the Staff of Asclepius (sometimes also spelled Asklepios or Aesculapius) and as the asklepian, is a serpent-entwined rod wielded by the Greek god Asclepius, a deity associated with healing and medicine. The symbol has continued to be used in modern times, where it is associated with medicine and health care
“Ironically, the properties that make venom deadly are also what make it so valuable for medicine.””The curative dose [is] just within the limit of the pathogenetic dose.” Walking such a fine line, physicians of old likely hastened patients’ deaths as often as—or more often than—they prolonged their lives.”“Snakes are his first priority” National geographic
The Pukwudgie is also native to America: a short, grey-faced, large-eared creature distantly related to the European goblin. Fiercely independent, tricky and not over-fond of humankind (whether magical or mundane), it possesses its own powerful magic. Pukwudgies hunt with deadly, poisonous arrows and enjoy playing tricks on humans. Pottermore
Pukwudgie students maycarry their own version of the creature’s trademark poisoned arrows. Don’t mess with them. JK Rowling
Slytherin’s Legacy Slytherin’s wand remained inactive following Gormlaith’s command in Parseltongue. Isolt could not speak the language, but, in any case, she no longer wanted to touch the wand that was the last relic of her unhappy childhood. She and James buried it outside the grounds.
Within a year an unknown species of snakewood tree had grown out of the earth on the spot where the wand was buried. It resisted all attempts to prune or kill it, but after several years the leaves were found to contain powerful medicinal properties. This tree seemed testament to the fact that Slytherin’s wand, like his scattered descendants, encompassed both noble and ignoble. The very best of him seemed to have migrated to America. pottermore
And you still think snakes don´t belong into Pukwudgie? Honey, we are as Slytherin as it gets.
I have been searching for years with my mother to find out where in Ireland our ancestors come from, and we finally had a breakthrough. We got some county names. Now, I am trying to find out more, maybe a town, or their parents’ names. Even direction to resources other than ancestry.com that I can access here in America would be wonderful. And I could really use your help.
I am a descendant of Thomas Dempsey, born about 1822 in Co Roscommon, supposedly in the parish of Oran (his headstone says Oram, but after some research, I am convinced this is a spelling mistake), to parents Lawrence and Mary. He died in 1899 in Lambertville, NJ, USA. He married Bridget Cavanaugh, born about 1832 in Co Galway, and also died in Lambertville sometime after 1895.
We do not know when they married, when they emigrated, if they emigrated separately and met in America or on the ship, or if they had married in Ireland. We do not know when Bridget died. We do know that they were Catholic, and some records indicate that Thomas arrived in America around 1849. We realize this may be a fruitless search - between the loss of records over the years, the wait for digitization, and the potential complications due to them being (probably) poor Catholics living in a rural area, and coming over probably due to the Great Famine. But, we want to try our hardest to find out as much as possible. It means a lot to us.
If you can help us in any way, I will be forever appreciative. Thank you!
I can’t even. 2.5 hours of them playing. Slash did like a 20 minute solo. The played Guns N Roses songs in addition their stuff. Their encore including playing Jimi Hendrix’s Hey Joe. That concert was practically a religious experience.
